Pilot Career Progression
Air Canada pilots enjoy one of the fastest and most rewarding advancement paths in the industry.

Narrowbody Captain: Upgrade in approximately 3–5 years.

Average salary: $255,000–$291,000 + expenses

Most new pilots start as First Officers on domestic routes or as Relief Pilots on international long-haul flights.

Pilot Job Requirements
To qualify for Air Canada pilot jobs, you must meet these minimum requirements:

Minimum 2000 hours of fixed-wing flight time
-
Hold a Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with a valid Group 1 Instrument Rating
-
Pass Transport Canada Category 1 medical and visual acuity tests
-
Hold a valid Canadian passport or permanent residency
-
Be eligible for a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
-
Be legally authorized to work in Canada and travel internationally
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants with the following additional experience will be given preference:

Degree or diploma in aviation or related fields
-
Commercial or military flying background
-
Jet or turboprop multi-crew experience
-
University or college education in aviation or technical subjects
