  • Prepare and review complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analysis with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Ensure compliance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as applicable. Your deep understanding of these standards will be crucial.

  • Prepare internal financial statements and management reports, providing clear explanations for variances and trends.

2. Technical Accounting & Complex Analysis

  • Research, interpret, and apply complex Canadian Accounting Standards to unique transactions, ensuring technical compliance and proper treatment.

  • Manage the accounting for key areas such as revenue recognition, leases, financial instruments, and business combinations.

  • Perform in-depth financial analysis to support strategic initiatives, identify cost-saving opportunities, and improve profitability.

3. Process Improvement & Systems Optimization:

  • Proactively identify, develop, and implement improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and financial systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

  • Serve as a super-user for our ERP system (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online), leading or assisting with modules and upgrades.

  • Document procedures and workflows to strengthen the internal control environment and ensure knowledge transfer.

Collaboration & Business Partnership:

  • Partner closely with operational departments (Sales, Operations, HR) to provide financial guidance, support budgeting, and ensure accurate coding of transactions.

  • Liaise with external auditors, providing prepared workpapers and clear explanations to facilitate a smooth annual audit process.

  • Support the preparation of working papers and documentation for corporate tax filings, working in tandem with our tax advisors.

5. Mentorship & Team Development:

  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior and intermediate accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

  • Review the work of team members, offering constructive feedback to ensure high-quality output and growth.
