Remote WordPress Engineer
We are looking for a Remote WordPress Engineer to bring on board with our Canadian digital team. Working from your home office, you will be collaborating with project managers, designers, and content creators. The main objective of you as a part of our team is to create, update, and maintain high-quality WordPress websites for our clients.
This is a full-time remote position. The working location can be anywhere in Canada. We are results-oriented and location does not matter.
We would like to have a person who is highly enthusiastic about WordPress development. A person who produces clean code. A person who is concerned about speed, security, and user experience. You will be involved in the new builds, redesigns, plugin integrations, and custom features.

Key Responsibilities
Among your duties will be the development, optimization, troubleshooting, and website builds. So, the main responsibilities are:
1. Build and Customize WordPress Websites
- Build WordPress sites with no prior template.
- Work with themes such as Astra, GeneratePress, Blocksy, Kadence, or custom themes.
- Develop UI designs using Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, or other builders.
- Adhere to brand guidelines and up-to-date design practices.
2. Develop Custom Themes and Plugins
- Design custom themes that satisfy the specifications of clients.
- Develop small and easy-to-use plugins in PHP.
- Continue the development of existing themes with child themes.
- Implement custom post types, taxonomies, and custom fields.
3. Optimize Website Performance
- Enhance the speed of the website by using the most efficient methods.
- Optimize CSS, JS, images, and the database.
- Employ caching tools such as WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, or W3 Total Cache.
- Comply with Web Core Vitals criteria.
4. Maintain Website Security
- Put security best practices into place.
- Install and set up security plugins.
- Perform WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates.
- Remove malware, as well as fix bugs and security holes.
5. Collaborate With the Team
- Coordinate with designers to create pixel-perfect pages.
- Work with the content writers to set the on-page SEO.
- Participate in weekly virtual team meetings.
- Update regularly with progress and other information.
6. Troubleshoot and Solve Technical Issues
- Repair broken layouts, scripts, and plugin conflicts.
- Debug PHP errors and WordPress issues.
- Find and fix performance, hosting, and compatibility issues.
7. Manage Hosting, Backups & Deployment
- Transfer websites between servers.
- Create staging environments.
- Manage DNS settings and SSL certificates.
- Make sure that backups are taken regularly and that deployment is done safely.
8. Support Clients
- Respond to customer inquiries in a manner that is both helpful and pleasant.
- Facilitate their understanding of new features.

Required Skills
We would want a person who has excellent technical as well as communication skills. The following are the never-to-be-without abilities:
Technical Skills
- More than three years of hands-on experience in WordPress development.
- Very good understanding of PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Good working experience with Elementor or Gutenberg.
- Able to work with REST API and JSON.
- Capable of handling MySQL databases.
- Experience with the management of cPanel, WHM, or cloud hosting.
- Git is a tool you are at ease with.
- Have the ability to make websites fast and SEO-friendly.
- Have some experience with WooCommerce (a plus).
Soft Skills
- Can work without supervision.
- Communicate very well with others.
- Have strong problem-solving skills.
- Are very detail-minded.
- Have the skills to keep up with deadlines.
- Have the ability to work well with other team members.
- Have an optimistic approach to things.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Having these talents will be a great advantage but they are not mandatory:
- Good command of React or Vue.
- Having knowledge of Laravel or Node.js.
- Using headless WordPress as a platform.
- Knowing the principles of UX and UI design.
- Familiarity with Figma or Adobe XD.
- Possessing basic SEO knowledge.
- Being aware of accessibility standards.
- Experience can be a plus if you have worked in agile teams.

Salary Range
The salary depends on experience.
Typical range for Canada:
CAD 60,000 – CAD 90,000 per year
