Cataloguing
Keep, revise and edit local bib data in the catalogue of the Library and Archives;
Original and copy cataloguing of all materials; print and electronic monographs, including subject analysis, and classification;
Produce bibliographic records in accordance with Library of Congress and RDA (Resource Description and Access) cataloguing standards, local cataloguing rules, and OCUL (Ontario Council of University Libraries) Collaborative Futures consortium best practices;
Describe and classify materials, physical and electronic resources, according to current cataloging, indexing, and metadata standards and protocols (including RDA, LCSH, LCC, MARC).
Providing collections of scholarly material in the repositories, describing that material using Dublin Core;
Print relevant labels, attach to material, and complete the physical preparations for placing Library and Archives materials on the shelves.
Other duties:
Work on other projects as assigned by the Librarians, the Archivist and the Manager;
Collaborate with other team members to guarantee that cataloguing decisions are made consistently and adhere to a uniform pattern;
Inform other team members of changes and refinements to processes;
- Keep oneself updated with cataloguing resources and techniques and search tools;
- Take related courses, receive formal training, or train other team members;
- If a problematic situation occurs, consult with the Technical Services Coordinator; and
- Other assignments directly related to the position as assigned.
