The Court of King’s Bench is the Superior Trial Court for the Province and hears trials in civil and criminal matters as well as appeals from decisions of the Court of Justice.
Role Responsibilities
- Executive and/or Legal Assistant experience, serving in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment. Are you interested in working with the busiest court in Alberta, assisting Court of King’s Bench to provide decisions that will affect the lives of Albertans? The Court of King’s Bench, for its part, has an exciting opportunity to provide executive and legal support to the chief and other justices in Edmonton.
- As a Judicial Assistant, in a team environment you will provide a full range of administrative and legal support to up to five Justices of the Court of King’s Bench, including, but not limited to:
- Sending calendars and appointment scheduling
- Maintaining and reviewing budget/claim expenses
- Typing, formatting, editing and proofreading judgments, including researching and verifying case and statute citations, to ensure accuracy of the finished product before filing
- Preparing highly complex and confidential correspondence and memoranda
- Preparing materials for court hearings
- Processing sensitive and confidential information
- Developing and maintaining hard-copy and electronic filing systems including organizing and classifying records
- Dealing with incoming phone calls and correspondence
- Arranging travel — often of a complex nature
- Arranging meetings and conferences, which includes bringing together and collating all documents needed
- Drafting judicial rotations
- Providing back-up support for other Judicial Assistants

Qualifications

- Two year diploma in a related area (i.e., Legal Assistant, Legal Administration, and Paralegal); and a minimum of one year progressively responsible related experience.
- Year-for-year equivalencies will be considered (i.e., one year of education equals one year of relevant legal experience or one year of relevant legal experience equals one year of education).
- Preferred candidate will have 10+ years directly related Legal Assistant, Judicial Assistant and/or Executive Assistant experience.
