Job Summary

Omni Blood Centers- Join us and support a team of Registered Nurses (RN) at local blood donation clinics, ensuring donors have a safe, efficient, and rewarding experience. In this role, you will assess donor eligibility, monitor donor reactions, and provide post-donation care. You will ensure that Canadian Blood Services upholds the highest standards of patient safety and welfare for donors while assisting in their important mission.

This role is perfect for nurses who excel in busy settings, have a passion for patient hands-on care, and would like to be involved in life-saving procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Very High – Donor Assessment & Eligibility
  • Pre-screen and assess the health of donors to establish eligibility.
  • Assess the donor’s medical history and vital signs prior to blood/plasma donation.
  • Donor Questions: Outline information about the donation process and answer donor questions.

Blood Collection & Monitoring

  • During the donation process, perform venipuncture and monitor donors.
  • Recognize and manage adverse reactions from the donor, such as dizziness or feeling fatigued.
  • Adhere rigorously to the Canadian Blood Services safety and quality protocols.
  • Step 3: Donor Care & Post-Donation Support
  • Educate about post-donation care and evaluate donor well-being prior to dismissal.
  • Provide medical assistance as necessary, as well as refer donors for additional medical care if needed.
  • Educate Donations on Regular Blood Donation and its impact on the Community.
  • The following are statements about collaboration and clinical excellence.
  • Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team alongside phlebotomists, laboratory technicians, and medical personnel.
  • Aid in the training and coaching of new employees in optimal blood collection techniques.
  • Ensure that correct medical documentation and records is in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Health & Safety Compliance

Implement all infection control and safety protocols to ensure a clean environment.

This includes: Proper collection, handling, labeling, and storage of blood and plasma samples.

Continue your education periodically through pieces of training and professional courses on to best practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Valid Registered Nurse (RN) License in Canada
  • At least 1-2 years of clinical experience (experience in transfusion medicine, emergency care or critical care is an asset)
  • Capable of performing venipuncture, monitoring patients, and maintaining medical assessments.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to converse with donors.
  • Strong organizational skills within a fast-paced environment, managing multiple donor interactions.
  • Ensures adherence to all healthcare regulations and compliance with patient safety and infection control protocols.
  • Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, to adapt to the donor
